Gold nanorod-templated synthesis of polymetallic hollow nanostructures with enhanced electrocatalytic performance

One-dimensional Au-based hollow nanostructures are synthesized by a simple method using gold nanorods as a sacrificed template. Resulting hollow dumbbell-like nanorods of Au@PtAg exhibit enhanced catalytic activity in the direct oxidation of formic acid via the dehydrogenation pathway.
