A facile generic strategy of simultaneous coordinating etching and precipitating reaction is employed to prepare hollow crossed NiCo2 O4 nanocubes. The intrinsic hollow nature as well as the multi-elements characteristics of active components of the unique nanostructures contributes greatly to the enhanced performance as anode materials for Li-ion batteries.
